The secret: Ultraviolet light
The AC CD1000’s secret weapon is UV-C (ultraviolet) radiation, which is proven effective at preventing viruses from reproducing and spreading. The AC CD1000 exposes both sides of each individual bill to UV-C, rendering even large volumes of currency virus-free within minutes. Irradiated UV-C light is absorbed into DNA and RNA of viruses and bacteria. This ultraviolet light destroys the spiral structure and gene information, thereby inactivating viruses. A validation experiment conducted at Aichi Medical University, Japan, resulted in a 99% inactivation of Parainfluenza virus. This is an enveloped virus whose structure is similar to Covid-19.
Processing 1,000 bills a minute – a feeder unit and a stacker unit (shown at left) facilitate high-volume and high-speed processing. Banknotes are fed one-by-one from the feeder unit. Both sides are irradiated with strong UV-C light and then stored in the pocket of the stacker unit.
